Emergency services were called to West Road at around 9.45pm on Sunday to reports of a stabbing.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics a man, believed to be in his late teens, was confirmed dead at the scene.

A post-mortem was due to take place today.

An 18-year-old man was detained nearby and taken to hospital with an injury. West Midlands Police confirmed the man remained in hospital on Tuesday and will be questioned in due course.

Pictures from the scene show that floral tributes have been left in West Road for the victim, who is yet to be officially named by officers.

One tribute read: "I can't believe this is actually happening after we was only together days ago.

"You was a good lad and been taken way too early. You will never be forgotten bro. I hope you're in peace."

Another added: "You never got the chance to live. Such a sad and wicked world we live in.

"Fly high young man."

Detectives from West Midlands Police are still working to establish the circumstances of the incident and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Detective Inspector Hannah Whitehouse, from the force's homicide team, said on Monday: "A young man has tragically died and we will be doing all we can to work out exactly what went on Sunday night.

"We believe there were a number of people in the area at the time, but left before speaking to officers. We need them to come forward and tell us what they saw."
