Suspects bailed as police investigate nine-year-old boy's death

A man and woman have been released on bail as an investigation into the death of a nine-year-old boy continues.

A 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and a 33-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of child neglect in relation to the boy's death in Copcut, Droitwich, this week.

The two have been been bailed until March 19.

The youngster – named locally as Alfie – died after being taken to hospital in critical condition at about 3pm on Thursday.

Police are currently treating the death as unexplained.

Neighbours said the youngster lived at a semi-detached property in Vashon Drive, Copcut. with his mother and siblings – a brother and two sisters, aged between four and 12.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "The boy unfortunately died on Thursday 18 February, and the cause of his death is not yet known.

"We are continuing to treat this as an unexplained death and are supporting the victim’s family at this time and would ask they are given privacy during this tragic event."
