The vehicle, which was stopped in Dudley, is believed to have been involved in several bulk fuel thefts across the Midlands region.

Officers used pre-emptive tactics to prevent a pursuit, said police.

WMP Traffic tweeted about the incident and published photographs showing a grey vehicle, which appeared to be a Citroen, and several fuel containers.

WMP Traffic tweeted: "This cloned vehicle has been used in several bulk fuel thefts across the Midlands and into @WMerciaPolice after being sighted in Dudley we used Pre-Emptive tactics to prevent a pursuit. Success means we have 2 in custody and about 75litres of fuel back. #TrafficCops"
