Seven vehicles were on fire at the MOD Stafford base.

Firefighters and police were called to the barracks off Brazier Way just after 4am on Sunday.

Fire investigators said the cause was most probably deliberate and it was left in the hands of the Military Police.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "We were called at about 4.10am to reports of several cars being on fire at the MOD Stafford base in the early hours of Sunday.

"Up to seven cars were alight on the barracks off Brazier Way in Stafford.

"We liaised with Royal Military Police officers at the scene, while Staffordshire Fire and Rescue were also in attendance.

"The scene and investigation were left in the hands of the Royal Military Police."

A spokesman for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at about 4.05am on Sunday morning to reports of a blaze at MOD Stafford’s Beacon Barracks.

"Staffordshire Police were informed due to the suspicious nature of the incident and crews from Stafford and Rising Brook were dispatched.

"Seven vehicles were well alight at the scene. The blaze was extinguished by 5.05am and crews remained at the scene for damping down and to assist police and fire investigators.

"Military Police also attended the scene and officers remained to also assist them with their investigations.

"By 1.30pm fire investigators had declared the cause to most probably be deliberate and the scene was left in the hands of the Military Police."
