Man charged with assaulting emergency workers after fire in Wolverhampton

A man has been charged with assaulting emergency workers after a fire at a block of flats in Wolverhampton.

Emergency services were called to a fire at a property in Renton Road, in Oxley, at around 9pm on Sunday.

West Midlands Police confirmed in a statement on Tuesday that two officers were assaulted at the scene – and a man has been bailed to appear before Dudley Magistrates Court next month.

No crime has been recorded in relation to the fire at the flat, the force added.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We were called following a fire at a property in Renton Road, Oxley, around 9pm on Sunday.

"A man was detained and two officers were assaulted.

"Following further enquiries no crime was recorded in relation to the fire but a 35-year-old man was charged with assaulting emergency workers.

"John Foster, of Renton Road, Wolverhampton, was bailed to appear before Dudley Magistrates Court on March 9."
