Investigators arrested a 17-year-old boy on August 7 in connection with the incident.

He was released under investigation to allow them to carry out further enquiries – and yesterday the suspect, now aged 18, was charged with several offences.

Kallum Aish has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, driving with no insurance or licence, criminal damage and cannabis possession.

The woman was run over in Doe Bank Lane, Great Barr, on July 22.

She survived but her beloved pet dog Millie sadly died at the side of the road.
