Police officers assaulted '19 times in 24 hours'

West Midlands Police officers were assaulted 19 times in a 24 hour period, it has been revealed.

One incident saw an officer sexually assaulted.

Another saw an officer get blood in their mouth from a person with Hepatitis C. The officer had tried to stop the person bleeding from an artery.

The incidents were branded "unacceptable" by Vanessa Jardine, the deputy chief constable for West Midlands Police, who revealed them on Twitter.

She tweeted: "Just reviewing the 19 incidents of officers assaulted and injured in the last 24 hours, @WMPolice including one officer sexually assaulted and one who got blood in their mouth from a person with Hep C whilst trying to to stop an arterial bleed #heroes #unacceptable"
