Man fighting for life after Birmingham city centre mugging

A man is fighting for his life after he was mugged in Birmingham city centre.

The 23-year-old was kicked in the face and body by two men and a woman before they stole items from him and ran away.

The victim sustained head injuries that needed emergency surgery and he is still in the high dependency unit, where his condition is described as critical.

The shocking incident happened on Sheepcote Street on Friday as the victim was walking by the canal, near to the Distillery public house at around 6.20pm.

All three of the attackers then ran away up the canal toward the International Convention Centre (ICC).

The three suspects are all described as Asian and in their early 20s. The woman was wearing a fawn scarf around her head.

Detective Inspector Vanessa Eyles said: “It is terrible to hear that a young man who went out to socialise on a Friday evening and has ended up fighting for his life in hospital.

"We urgently need to find out the identities of the three suspects and are appealing to people to come forward with any information that will help us to identify them.”
