A drunk driver led police on a 100mph chase, careering over roundabouts, surging through red lights and crashing through signs.

Luke Page, 22, tore through Bloxwich in the seven-mile chase reaching breakneck speeds in 30mph zones including along the B4154 near Rushall at around 11.20pm on December 3.

Police started tailing him when they spotted a headlight out on the car he was borrowing.

The court heard boozed-up Page, who recorded 52mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath when breathalysed, a significant amount over the 35mg limit, had spiralled out of control after the death of his brother in 2015.

He served a custodial sentence for dangerous driving in October of that year when he tried to evade police, only to be stopped after a stinger was deployed.

Prosecutor Patrick Sullivan told Wolverhampton Crown Court that at one point: "He joined the B4154 and overtook vehicles on a 30mph road while travelling at 70mph.

"He went through a red light at a major junction at 90mph without slowing down.

"That was still in a 30mph zone.

"Further along the road he reached speeds of 100mph.

"Because of that, when he approached roundabouts he wasn't able to slow down and go around them, he just went over the top.

"He crashed through a sign on the roundabout."

Page, of Barns Lane, Rushall, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, failing to stop and driving with no insurance, while disqualified and under the influence of alcohol.

Defence barrister Oliver Woolhouse said: "He has been remorseful."

He was jailed for 18 months and will be disqualified from driving for three years upon his release. He will also have to take an extended retest to get his licence back.
