Amar Atwal, aged 12, died in hospital following the crash in Hollyhedge Road, West Bromwich, in May.

Two others who were in the car with him were seriously hurt.

Nadeem Hussain drove across the junction from Thursfield Road.

BREAKING: Taxi driver guilty of causing death of Amar Atwal in horror smash

It is alleged that he should have given way before smashing into the Mitsubishi Outlander.

The force of the crash ejected Amar from the car in which he had been a back-seat passenger, Birmingham Crown Court heard.

Paramedics battled to save his life, but the schoolboy died from his injuries.

His mother was left in intensive care in hospital.

Amar, of Great Barr, was a young footballer who played for Willenhall-based Sporting Khalsa.

Hussain, aged 35, of Lloyd Street, Dudley, denies causing death by dangerous driving and two charges of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Giving evidence, he told the jury that he had braked on the approach to the junction and carried on across as he could see no cars coming from either direction.

Hussain said: "As I approached the junction visibility was clear, I put the brake on and because I could see no cars coming I carried on going forward."

CCTV footage from Hollyhedge Road shows Hussain's Vauxhall Astra come across the junction before smashing into the Mitsubishi.

Mr Adam Western, prosecuting, claimed Hussain's account was rubbish and that he had caused the crash.

Mr Western told him: "Your driving that day was dangerous, wasn't it?"

"I do not agree," Hussain replied.

The trial continues.
