WATCH: Halloween bar brawl on Birmingham's Broad Street left man needing stitches

Detectives investigating a Halloween bar brawl that saw a man cracked over the head with a large bowl in Bimingham have released CCTV footage in a bid to trace the attacker.

Trouble flared at 6 On Broad Street in the early hour October 30 as a group of three men attacked another reveller in the upstairs bar.

Camera footage catches the moment one thug grabs a bowl from the bar ? one containing Halloween sweets for customers ? before crashing it down over the man's head from behind.

He sneaked out of the club minutes later leaving his victim covered in blood and needing hospital treatment for stitches to head wounds.

Police arrested two men at the venue but the third suspect fled the scene.

Investigating officer PC Ross Evans, said: "This was a really cowardly attack: the victim was defending himself against two men punching him when a third man hit him from behind with the bowl.

"Seconds later he retreats and then within moments he runs back into the melee and again punches the victim from behind.

"The victim was left with nasty cuts to his head. This type of aggression is totally unacceptable and I would urge anyone who knows the man to get in touch ? they can speak to us in confidence and don't have to leave their name.

"We're still looking into the cause of the assault so I would also appeal to the man in the clip to do the right thing and speak to us so he can put across his side of the story."

The suspect is described as white, around 5ft 7ins tall, who at the time had a short beard; he was wearing a light-blue short-sleeved shirt.

Two men, both aged 32 and from Hall Green and Acocks Green respectively, were arrested on suspicion of assault and bailed till January pending more enquiries.

If anyone believes they recognise the suspect they are asked to call PC Evans in the Investigation Team at Birmingham Police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
