Police say officers and firearms teams had gone to the address at around 8.30am to hold a suspect.

West Midlands Police spokeswoman Hannah Fitzgerald said it was initially believed a man inside the property was refusing to co-operate with police.

"Officers are attempting to resolve the situation peacefully. Members of the community are thanked for their patience," the force said at the time.

But it later emerged that the man was not at the address, on Lea Hall Road, Kitts Green.

The road was closed and buses were diverted while police dealt with the incident.

By around 11am, police said the incident had ended.

West Midlands Police later said: "No arrests were made at the address. The individual being looked for was not at the property. We are continuing to make inquiries to find that person and arrest him."

Officers said they would not reveal any more details about the wanted man for operational reasons.

It was one of two armed police dramas in the West Midlands today. In Darlaston, firearms officers stormed a house amid reports that a man was threatening a woman with a knife.
