Man stabbed to death in Birmingham park

A 34-year-old man has been stabbed to death in a Birmingham park.

Police have launched a murder inquiry after the man was killed in Waverhill Park in Handsworth this morning.

Officers were called to the park in Waverhill Road at around 10.20am after reports of a man being stabbed. Ambulances crews were called and the victim was taken to hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police have not yet named the victim.

Officers have cordoned off the park and are carrying out forensic investigations and local house to house enquiries. They will also be examining CCTV of the scene.

A post mortem will take place in due course.

Detective Inspector Shaun Egan, from West Midlands Police's homicide team, said: "A murder inquiry has begun and investigations are currently on-going but an early stage.

"We are appealing for anyone who was in the park this morning and who may have seen anything or who has any information to call police on 101."
