The masked men struck first at Co-op on The Broadway, Norton, last night, fleeing with cash.

They entered wearing balaclavas and demanded money, but no weapons were seen.

Less then two miles away, and just minutes later, they hit Tesco Express in Platts Road, Amblecote at around 10.30pm and also made off with money.

There, police said a cashier was threatened with a firearm concealed in a bag.

A witness noted down the registration vehicle of the suspected getaway car for the Tesco robbery, and police tracked it to Bedcote Place at 11am.

Two men, aged 27 and 25, were arrested and a cash till and clothing were recovered from the vehicle.

Det Sgt Kerrie Scriven, said: "We had the men in custody just 30 minutes after the robberies being reported to us…that's thanks largely to the swift actions of a witness who took down the getaway car's details.

"No-one was injured at either store but understandably staff who came face-to-face with these men and were threatened have been left badly shaken."

Witnesses should call Dudley Police on 101
