Alan Holloway, of Adelaide Street, Brierley Hill, pleaded guilty when he appeared before Wolverhampton Crown Court yesterday.

The crash, which cost the life of 50-year-old nurse Christian Davies, whose friends knew him by his middle name of Hugh, happened at Pedmore Road, Brierley Hill, on June 30.

The nurse from Martindale Walk, Amblecote, had been riding on his Honda CBR motorbike on the way to work at Russells Hall Hospital. He was certified dead at the scene.

Mr Howard Searle, prosecuting, told the court there was no suggestion either man had been speeding.

The 58-year-old defendant was remanded on bail until April 22 when full details of the case will be outlined and he will be sentenced.

Judge Amjad Nawaz, speaking in court, told Holloway not to draw any conclusion from the fact he was being granted bail while pre-sentence reports were being prepared.

He said: "This is a serious case."

Tributes were paid to Mr Davies, a charge nurse who had worked at the hospital since 1991, in the aftermath of his death.

His long-term partner, Julie Adams, said: "Hugh is the love of my life, my best friend and my soul mate. He is the best thing that ever happened to me and made me laugh every day.

"I love you to the moon and stars and solar system and infinity and beyond," she said.

Mr Davies' daughter Tanaya, aged 19, said her Dad was one of a kind.

She added: "What you see is what you get and he did not change for anyone.

"He was a caring, courageous and very cheeky man. I love him with every ounce of my body and wish that I still could have that one last game with him.

"He was my hero and still always will be."

Friends of Mr Davies, who lived in Amblecote having grown up in Kingswinford, described him as a 'motorbike fanatic'.

Many of his friends and colleagues posted messages on Mr Davies' Facebook page.

One colleague, said: "Russells Hall has lost one truly amazing, caring, friendly, knowledgeable, supportive, funny Charge Nurse Hugh Davies."
