Staffordshire police investigating racist gang attack

Staffordshire Police are investigating a racially-motivated attack after a high-profile football match.

Published

Shortly after the Stoke City v Liverpool match on January 5 at the Britannia Stadium, a black male was subjected to an assault carried out by a gang.

As the man was walking down Stanley Matthews Way a vehicle mounted the kerb behind him, before the occupants got out of the vehicle, racially abused him and threw bottles at him.

Police say the 48-year-old man was shaken but not injured.

Officers believe the incident was witnessed by many other supporters walking along the road and that some may have recorded it on their mobile phones.

The vehicle is described as dark in colour and of a larger type.

Stoke had lost 1-0 to Liverpool in the Capital One Cup semi-final first leg tie.
