Police were called after being alerted by an ambulance crew at 8.30pm, and a post mortem will be held tomorrow to establish the cause of death. It is believed that the victim may have been dead for some hours.

A 37-year-old Walsall woman, of no fixed address, was arrested at 10.45pm in Ravenscroft Road, while a 49-year-old man was also arrested from a property in St Giles Road, Willenhall, early today.

Willenhall South Councillor Carl Creaney said: "It's a tragedy. It's a good friend of mine I've known for a long long time, well over 20 odd years. What's happened to him shouldn't have happened to him.

"My heart goes out to his ex-wife and his children. It's dreadful news."

"We've already spoken to many residents in Walsall Street but if anyone was in the area yesterday afternoon, and have not yet spoken to police, then I'd ask them to call me as soon as possible.

"It may be they saw or heard something suspicious, perhaps a disturbance or people leaving the scene, that could be important to the investigation."
