Staff at the home in Tividale were left stunned after raiders stole the gifts bought for elderly residents through fundraising.

The burglary at Warrens Hall Care Home was discovered just a day before a planned Christmas party. Thankfully the party was still able to go-ahead thanks to support from staff and the wider community, who helped replace presents.

The break-in at the Oakham Road care home happened between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

Some of the presents stolen were for Christmas, others were for residents celebrating their birthday in the new year.

After the theft staff rallied members of the community and neighbourhood police together to ensure Christmas was not cancelled for the residents.

Managers today said they had been 'shocked' but thanked everyone for their kind generosity which allowed a Christmas party to go ahead yesterday.

They made off with presents and alcohol which were all in place for the home's annual festive party.

Staff and family members along with the wider community helped gather a new selection of presents for them. Police have launched an investigation into the break-in.

Home manager, Kal Jagpal, said: "We are all really shockedby what has happened and are supporting the police with their investigation. The whole team here at Warrens Hall will pull out all the stops to make sure our residents have a happy and festive Christmas." Area Manager Maria Brazier added: "

We have been overwhelmed by the support from our community."

West Midlands Police spokeswoman, Gina Lycett, said: "We are investigating a burglary believed to have happened overnight on the December 8 and 9.

"Christmas presents purchased by staff members using fundraising money to give to residents was stolen. The value was around £250." Anyone with information call police on 101.
