Copper, brass and squashed central heating tanks were nabbed from Chase Metal Recycling at Chaseside Industrial Estate.

The burglars also made off with and damaged office equipment - ranging from laptops to electrical hand tools.

It has left the firm a further £6,000 out of pocket.

The company was recently victim to a devastating fire which boss Darren Owens said cost them more than £100,000.

He said: "We want the public to know that we are still open, and we still purchase scrap cars, ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

"We are offering a large cash reward leading to the conviction of the gang."

The burglary took place between 9pm on November 30 and 1.30am on December 1 at the unit off Chaseside Drive.

Mr Owens said the burglars also tried to break into a large safe, which was empty as it is no longer used.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "Entry was gained from the Hyssop Close side of the property along a public footpath."

Two years ago a new law was brought in to tackle scrap metal thefts.

The Scrap Metal Dealers Act saw thefts in Staffordshire drop 70 per cent.

"Anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious behaviour is asked to call 101 quoting incident 113 of December 1."
