282 cannabis plants found in latest Smethwick bust

More than 280 cannabis plants were discovered at a house in Smethwick, with police estimating the haul to be worth thousands of pounds.

Officers were called to the house, in Cheshire Road, after responding to a 999 call.

Four rooms inside the home had been converted into a cannabis factory creating batches of the class B drug.

Officers raided the house at around 11.45pm on Monday and discovered a total of 282 plants inside.

No arrests have been made so far.

A specialist team on West Midlands Police work to smash cannabis operations across the force area.

Following the raid, the cannabis team wrote on Twitter: "282 cannabis plants seized from four rooms of the house which was converted for cultivation.

"The set up was located by response officers who were responding to a 999 call at 23.45hrs. No arrests at this stage."

Plants were grown underneath hydroponic equipment inside the house including light rigs and ventilation fans.

The raid is the latest in a series of discoveries by police in the borough.

Two weeks ago around £300,000 worth of cannabis was found in two raids.

More than 300 cannabis plants were seized from Katherine Road, Smethwick and in the other raid a cannabis factory was found in a house, in Hallam Street, near Sandwell Hospital.
