Ronald Smith, 65, was found dead at his home in Cottage Walk on June 2 after police were called amid concerns for his welfare.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and bailed until next month.

Today police revealed more details about Mr Smith's life, as they pledged to bring his killer to justice.

Detective Inspector Ian Iliffe is leading the murder investigation: "We know that Ronald was alive on the 5th of May and we would ask anyone who knows his movements from that date to contact us.

"From what we can establish so far, Ronald kept himself to himself, although we do know that he was a keen fisherman and was often spotted fishing on the local canal.

"Ronald is known to have led a law-abiding life, he was a frequent visitor to West Bromwich centre and in particular we know he liked to visit some of the betting shops in the area.

"We also know that occasionally he visited local temples for meals as part of their community outreach work."

Supt Rich Youds, from Sandwell Police, said: "Local officers are working hand-in-hand with detectives, as well as the local community as we all work together to bring the person responsible for Ronald's death to justice as quickly as possible."
