The terrifying images show the car, which was later found in Old Hill, being reversed off the drive by a man who jumps into the driver's seat.

The car – a white Mini Cooper – was stolen at around midday on January 29 after being left on the driveway of the house in Kitwell Lane, Bartley Green, with the keys in the ignition.

The woman's dog appears to run into the road after the attack.

The stolen vehicle was recovered the next day outside a unit on Station Road, Old Hill.

A 25-year-old man from the Weoley Castle area was arrested on suspicion of robbery yesterday. He is currently on police bail while inquiries continue.

Dc Stuart Parker said: "Not only has the victim suffered substantial bruising and a fractured finger in the robbery, she has understandably been left frightened and scared by what happened.

"We're doing all we can to find whoever was responsible and as well as arresting one man in connection with the robbery, we're also carrying out a forensic examination of the vehicle.

"This happened in broad daylight and we would urge anyone who witnessed anything which might be relevant to our investigation to contact us.

"We'd also like to remind people there are always opportunistic thieves around looking for an easy steal, and not to leave cars unlocked and unattended, with the keys in the ignition."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
