Wolverhampton Crown Court was told that Christopher Goddard saw 'red mist' when he smashed a bottle of Desperados across the head of the 17-year-old victim and then began brawling with his 19-year-old brother.

The court heard there was a history of bad blood between the two parties.

Miss Alka Brigue, prosecuting, said: "The two complainants had been walking from their home address to Booze Corner at around 8.50pm. He has hit the 17-year-old across the back of the head with the bottle. This left a one inch cut which needed to glued.

The court heard Goddard had nine convictions between 2007 and 2011 which included robbery, attempted robbery and affray.

Mr Christopher O'Gorman, defending, said the 18-year-old had not bought the bottles purely to use them as weapons.

He said: "Mr Goddard was not out to cause trouble that night."

Goddard of Sandbeds Road, Willenhall pleaded guilty to two charges of wounding with intent.

His sentence of four years and eight months brought gasps from relatives and loved ones in the public gallery.

Recorder Nigel Baker QC told Goddard he would be eligible to be let out on licence when he had served half that term.
