Ian Woolley is accused of killing Pauline Gillen, aged 69, and a second person, named today as Jason Duffield, on the Yew Tree Estate.

Both victims were discovered with multiple stab wounds.

Woolley of Holly Court, Acacia Avenue, appeared in the dock at Sandwell Magistrates Court this morning. The dark haired 43-year-old spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth. He was remanded in custody to appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court tomorrow.

A tribute from her family said she was "a wonderful, beloved mother and grandmother, who will be missed dearly."

The body of Mr Duffield, believed to be in his 40s, was found behind the apartments at Holly Court.

Police were called at around 1.30am on Saturday after a resident of the flats found him dead on the ground. Officers then went inside the block and found Ms Gillen inside a flat with fatal injuries.

A blue forensics tent was set up at the rear of the eight-storey building, close to parking bays and garages for the flats.

Forensics teams remained at the scene throughout the day, combing the flats and surrounding grounds for evidence. Woolley was charged yesterday afternoon.

Forensic post-mortems carried out on Sunday concluded that both of the victims died as a result of multiple stab wounds.

The victims' families are being supported by specially trained liaison officers.
