The footfall at Cannock's new £160 million designer outlet was "beyond expectations" when it opened last week.

The McArthurGlen Designer Outlet West Midlands opened last Monday.

The centre offers up to 80 brands in its first phase, 41 of which opened this morning with savings of up to 60 per cent.

Mike Thomas, centre manager at Designer Outlet West Midlands said: “Our footfall was beyond our expectations throughout the whole first week and we were delighted to see guests enjoying themselves and shopping safely.

"Our West Midlands centre was amongst our most visited designer outlets and it’s fantastic to see local people settling in to their new jobs and welcoming visitors from across the region.”

Spanning 285,000 square feet in total over two phases, the centre will create 1,000 new jobs and support around £20 million of employment income each year.
