Incentive payments to boost Ladder
The Ladder for the Black Country says that the Government's recognition of the importance of helping employers to support young people into employment is a great boost to its work.
In yesterday's Budget, Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak extended and increased the many incentive payments available to employers willing to offer real jobs through apprenticeships and providing work experience placements to young people enabling them to learn valuable employability skills whilst making sure they have found a career pathway they feel they are suited to and build a stable future from.
Gill Durkin from Ladder members Performance Through People said that recruitment for traineeship programmes in local growth industries including logistics, health and social care, construction, childcare, manufacturing, digital, and leatherwork was currently taking place at centres across the West Midlands Region, giving young people access to high quality training leading to apprenticeships and employment.
"We are delighted at the response we have had from employers who are offering valuable placements in a variety of sectors.
"The extension of the apprenticeship recruitment incentive to September 2021 is fantastic news for those who are unemployed and for summer 2021 school leavers.

"The incentive of £3,000 for taking on a new apprentices will support employers to invest in new talent to help strengthen and build a workforce for the future – something that is essential to grasp new markets and extend existing ones following Brexit and the pandemic.
"The news of the Government’s road map to recovery has seen employment vacancies start to increase. By increasing and expanding employment incentives it will give employers confidence to invest in in future their future workforce."
She added that to support further development, funding is also available to enabling staff, who find themselves furloughed, to develop new skills or expand existing skills, knowledge and techniques needed to return to the workplace. Staff using furloughed time to increase their talents have found that they feel more prepared for the challenges ahead in rebuilding the economy and their community.
