Pelsall Butchery and Bakery, is still open during lockdown, but the restrictions have changed how the store operates, meaning the number of customers inside is limited and face coverings must be worn.

Reece Bate, 24, from West Bromwich who has been in the trade for seven years, took over from the award-winning Turners Butchers after the owners Mark and Steve Turner retired in October 2020.

Reece said: “It is very different to how it used to be. Before Covid, you could say hello, shake hands with customers and have as many people as you wanted in the shop, but this has been lost now.

“It’s not normal, and not what we like to see but we work through it and we still manage to have a chat with our customers.”

Despite the restrictions, Reece has seen some positive changes within his business.

He added: “Covid has opened people’s eyes. When supermarkets have lots of people queuing outside then more people come to use us and support their local businesses.

“Then they realise how good our produce is and keep coming back.”
