Firm grew employment and fleet in fourth year

The number of employees at a Rugeley business doubled in size in 2020 despite the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic.

Turnover at Legionella and Fire Safe Services grew from £1.5 million to £3.5m.

Managing director Steve Morris said that the company, which marks its fourth year in business this month, expected another 60 to 70 per cent growth in 2021 and was targetting £5m turnover.

Legionella and Fire Safe Services, which is based at Grover Court on Lea Hall Enterprise Park, off Wheelhouse Road, also recruited a new national sales manager in Jim Duffy.

The business that delivers legionella compliance and passive fire protection services across the UK has also invested in new vans.

Mr Morris said the fleet which operates across the Uk from Aberdeen to Jersey had grown to 25.

"2020 proved to be a successful year in spite of the challenge of coronavirus.

"Fortunately we were classed as an essential service and despite a bump in the road in April we were able to get on with delivering what our clients wanted," explained Mr Morris, who started the business with partner Steve Broughton.

The company has now grown to employ 38 directly and 24 sub-contractors.

Its work involves risk assessments for legionella, remedial work and service contracts.

It has also built up more high rise firs stopping work since the Grenfell Tower tragedy.

Clients in the region include Wolverhampton Homes and Birmingham City Council.

It also does work around the country for TGI Fridays and the Co-op.

Most of Legionella and Fire Safe Services' staff live within a 20-mile radius of its head office but it also has satellite offices in London, manchester and Livingston in Scotland.

Mr Morris said that the company's achievements in 2020 had been a real team effort.

"Everyone involved got their heads down and helped with the growth, It has been an incredible journey, but without our team of people we would be nothing," he added.

Plans for 2021 are to secure new contracts and work has already been won with the NHS and Ministry of Defence

The company's new vans have cameras fitted for increased safety and driver confidence and will be tracked providing increased efficiency, reduced miles per job and safety for single crew vans. They are also more environmentally friendly than their predecessors with a drastic reduction in carbon emissions.

Legionella and Fire Safe Services has a highly-skilled team of corporately-trained technicians and consultants, led by a senior management team with nearly 30 years of water and fire industry experience.
