The arrest was made in Birmingham following the death of 26-year-old Bashir Mohamed.

Mr Mohamed was found critically injured in Shyltons Croft, Ladywood, just before 4.20am yesterday and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post mortem examination has shown the victim, who was from Erdington, died from a stab wound to his arm.

Detectives from West Midlands Police arrested an 18-year-old man from an address in Highgate at about 6am yesterday (April 23) on suspicion of conspiracy to murder. He remains in police custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Stu Mobberley, from the homicide team, said: "It’s clear from our initial investigations that this is a complex case, but we have made good early progress and made one arrest.

"Our inquiries are continuing at pace and we now have a good understanding of what we believe led up to the man’s death.

"We’re still appealing for witnesses or anyone with information about the killing to get in touch.

"They can talk to us in confidence or contact the charity Crimestoppers anonymously."

People can message the force on live chat through the website or by calling 101, quoting log 316 of 22 April.

Alternatively, they can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
