Work planned to stop floods on busy Wolverhampton road

A councillor has welcomed work to stop flooding 'up to your knees' along a busy Wolverhampton road.

Drainage work is set to be carried out on Bee Lane near the railway bridge in Bushbury from Monday November 28 to Friday December 2.

The road will be closed in both directions while city council staff do the work, with diversion routes in place around Wood Lane, Three Tuns Lane, Stafford Road and vice versa.

Bushbury Councillor Dan Warren think that having the work completed will be a boost for people in the area and travelling through in the long run.

He said: "The bridge was built in the early 1900s for carrying the West Coast Main Line. "Because of the geology of the area, it naturally floods.

"We had some really bad summer rain this year, on a couple of occasions there was a real deluge.

"I asked the council to see if something could be done to stop the flooding. These roadworks are now going to happen next week. The road will be closed, which will cause inconvenience for people commuting and I do apologise for that.

"But I think if we can get this dealt with once and for all, it will be better for the whole community in the long run.

"Sometimes it would get really bad, in the deepest bit the water would be as high as two feet. "It would easily be up to your knees."
