The Shaolin Mantis Project would deliver a 'unique style of Chinese martial arts' and deliver fitness opportunities for young people.

Bosses behind the scheme said they were confident the centre could help divert people away from crime.

The facility would be created in Union Street, taking over the site of a former electrical suppliers.

The plans will now be assessed by Sandwell Council with a decision expected over the next few months.

West Bromwich councillor Bawa Dhallu believes the centre would be a positive addition to the town.

He said: "I think it is a very good idea. It would help to keep more young people away from the street and create less problems. I would support it."
