Ex-Wolves star Richard Stearman marries after unusual Paris proposal

Former Wolves skipper Richard Stearman has tied the knot in fairytale fashion after an unusual proposal involving the ex-wife of a previous teammate.

The Wolverhampton-born defender, who made 234 appearances for Wolves before joining Fulham in 2015, married Beth Lay last month.

The £2 million player wed Miss Lay after he proposed on the Pont des Arts bridge in the French capital, with a ring he had loaned from celebrity friend Danielle Lloyd.

Stearman's bizarre borrowing saw him pop the question with a ring owned by the glamour-model ex-wife of his old teammate Jamie O'Hara.

Concerned that he would lose the real ring, Stearman opted to borrow Miss Lloyd's.

Minutes after he proposed, Stearman had to explain to his soon-to-be-wife that the ring wasn't actually hers to keep.

Speaking to the Daily Mail about the ring-loan, Stearman said: "We got a round of applause as quite a few people had seen what was happening, but after five minutes of walking round, I did have to say: 'By the way, the ring isn't yours!'"

However, Miss Lloyd did later agree to give the ring to Miss Lay.

Miss Lloyd made headlines recently when her former husband and ex-Wolves midfielder Jamie O'Hara took to Twitter to speak out about the 'two years of hell' he suffered after divorcing Miss Lloyd.

After having three sons together, the pair separated in 2014 - the same year O'Hara left Wolves by mutual consent after scoring just two goals for the club.

Stearman met Miss Lay while he was still playing for Leicester in 2008 and the centre-back explained it was very much 'love at first sight' for him after spotting his future wife in a nightclub.

The wedding, which took place in June was the 'perfect' fairytale day for Miss Lay. She said: "'I knew pretty soon after we met that I could spend the rest of my life with Rich."

Now Stearman is looking forward to life in the spotlight after captaining Fulham in a recent pre-season friendly.
