Revealed: Dudley Museum move will cost £150,000

Plans to move Dudley Museum's collections to a new site will cost up to £150,000, council documents reveal.

The council unveiled plans last month to close Dudley Museum and shift the collection to Dudley Archives in Tipton Road.

A council report estimates closing the venue down will save the cash-strapped authority around £150,000 per year.

But it will also cost around that figure as a one-off spend to set up the new museum and ensure it 'provides an impressive attraction'.

A report to a meeting tonight states: "The cost of relocation will not be known until tenders for the new design and layout have been received.

"It should however be noted that it is expected that circa £100,000 to £150,000 will be needed to ensure the new museum provides an impressive attraction for visitors.

"This however is a one-off cost that is effectively only one year's current operational budget for the existing museum."
