Charlie Heywood: Inquest into teenager's death opens

A 19-year-old student from Great Barr died from injuries sustained when he was hit by a car on a busy road, an inquest heard.

Charlie Heywood was being dropped off after a night out with friends along the A34 Birmingham Road, Great Barr, at the junction with Bar Hill Close, when he was hit by a Mercedes on June 5.

Mr Heywood, of Morjon Drive, Great Barr, was studying in London but home for a weekend out with friends when he was struck.

Cause of death was confirmed as fatal injuries due to a road traffic collision.

Lead Coroner for the Black Country Zafar Siddique adjourned the inquest until August 25, awaiting the outcome of a police investigation.

The court heard how the driver of the car has been arrested and bailed.

An emotional letter had been left at the scene of his death by his mother earlier this week.
