Walsall school evacuated after 15 fall ill

More than 100 children have been evacuated from a Walsall school after several people complained they were feeling unwell.

In total 13 children and two women from Walsall Studio School in Digbeth said they were suffering with headaches, dizziness and nausea.

A total of 115 pupils and all staff have been evacuated from the Goldmine Centre premises on Lower Hall Lane, which is also the home of Big Centre TV.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident at 11.19am.

Ambulance crews, including a Hazardous Area Response Team, arrived and started tending to the people who were ill, while two fire crews from Walsall Station have also been called to the scene.

Police are also in attendance.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus and equipped with gas monitors are investigating the possible cause and an air conditioning unit has been isolated as a precaution.

Those evacuated have been moved to nearby apartments.
