The 56-year-old was taken to hospital after the collision, which happened at the junction between Oxley Moor Road and Stafford Road at around 10.20am.

A stretch of Stafford Lane was closed for hours as a result of the crash, causing major delays for drivers around Oxley, Bushbury and Dunstall.

Murray McGregor, of West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "The patient was fully conscious throughout. He was wearing a helmet. He had an abrasion to his head and a lower limb fracture.

"There was some damage to the cyclists helmet but he didn't appear to have any serious head injuries. He also had a sore right buttock. He was given pain relief and taken to New Cross Hospital.

"There was damage to the windscreen. The driver was fine."

At 2pm, the A449 remained closed heading out of the city from Bushbury Lane.

Kate Baker, of West Midlands Police, said: "The road was closed at Five Ways northbound along Bushbury Lane. Drivers were diverted to Fordhouses Road but could rejoin Stafford Road at Three Tons Lane."
