New Wolverhampton KFC 'unlikely' after centre demolished

Published

Demolition work is well underway at the former Lanesfield Community Centre site, but the new owners have been warned a planning application for a drive-thru KFC would be unlikely to succeed.

The site, which was bought for £250,000 from Wolverhampton council by Birmingham-based HKP Developments Ltd in December last year, has been turned to little more than rubble during the demolition.

A city councillor claims to have seen children's toys and equipment strewn across the area.

A number of groups, including one for toddlers, a youth club, and a pensioners' club have all been forced to seek alternative accommodation, after the site became a victim of Wolverhampton council's budget cuts, closing in July 2014.

The new owners remained tight-lipped when the Express & Star quizzed them on plans for the site, but on an application form submitted to the council, it states that advice was sought by company director Manpreet Pangli about gaining permission to build a drive-thru KFC.

He was advised that it would be 'unlikely' it would be accepted.
