Biker who died in crash with Staffordshire fire engine named

A motorbike rider who died in a crash with a fire engine on Saturday has been named as 47-year-old Simon Ireland.

Mr Ireland died after crashing with the Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service vehicle on the B5405 near Eccleshall at around midday on Saturday.

The ex-serviceman, of High Street, Gnosall, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His family today paid tribute to Mr Ireland, who they said they will miss 'incredibly'.

The family said:"Si was the most loving, caring husband and a complete gentleman. He loved his family deeply and had amazing friends.

"Si was extremely proud to have served in the Army. We will miss him incredibly but will hold him safe in our hearts forever."

A Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said the service "would like to express our sincere condolences to the family of the motorcycle rider at this difficult time."
