Steel girders covered the carriageway of the A5 between the A452 and the B4154, with drivers forced to take alternative routes in the early afternoon.

Road users were told to give themselves extra time while travelling.

Craig Hughes, of West Midlands Police, said: "Police were called to reports a lorry had overturned and shed its load on the A5 at just before 12.50pm. A man suffered minor injuries."

Highways England issued a statement on the road closure via its website.

The statement said: "The A5 in Staffordshire is closed northbound between the A452 (Brownhills) and the B4154, due to an overturned vehicle which has shed its load of steel girders across the carriageway. West Midlands Police are in attendance.

"Traffic is being diverted via local routes.

"Road users are advised to allow extra time for their journeys and consider alternative routes."
