Kamal Choudhury was stopped near to Spaghetti Junction for speeding, but police also seized his car for not having the correct insurance.

As police helped the 23-year-old and his female passenger unload the Volkswagon Passat before it was towed away, they became suspicious about the weight of one of their bags.

They looked inside and saw two plastic blocks covered in duct tape which they described as being significantly heavier than a bag full of books.

The pair were arrested at the time on Monday, February 22, on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply and a subsequent search uncovered heroin with a street value of £266,700.

Choudhary admitted the charge at court, but claimed he was merely a courier, only delivering the drugs to the Birmingham area but was not involved in further distribution.

His passenger faced no further action.

Choudhury, from Prestbury Road in Aston, was sentenced on Wednesday at Birmingham Crown Court.

Detective Inspector Darren Crutchley from SOCU said: "Whether he was involved in the distribution or not, this is a man who was responsible for bringing heroin and the crime and misery associated with Class A drugs to the streets of Birmingham.

"He's now in prison for a long time and thanks to some great proactive police work, we've been able to remove a large amount of illegal substances from the streets of the West Midlands."
