Lichfield District Council is now calling for witnesses after the trailer was left in a lay-by between Weeford and Bassets Pole in mid-December.

It was filled with baled waste and tyres, and has since been towed to a waste transfer station in Warwickshire.

Councillor Iain Eadie, Lichfield District Council's cabinet member for waste services, said that fly-tipping was a waste of council tax money.

"We are very keen to catch and prosecute the criminals that abandoned this trailer," he added.

"If you saw the trailer being left at the lay-by or recognise it from the photo, please contact us so we can prosecute the culprits.

"We want to spend council tax money on the things people want, not cleaning up after those who can't be bothered to dispose of their waste legally."

Lichfield Council has been investigating the abandoned trailer, along with Staffordshire County Council and the Environment Agency.

It wasn't the only unusual fly-tipping offence in the Lichfield district last December.

Cardboard boxes, breeze blocks, an old door and wood were dumped on an blind bend at a road near the border with Aldridge.

Bosses say fly-tipping was on course to cost them £100,000 across 2015.
