Major blaze lights up Burntwood grassland

A major fire has broken out on heathland in Burntwood.

Staffordshire Fire Service are tackling the blaze at Gentleshaw Common which has broken out on an 80 by 80 metre grassland.

Two fire engines from Cannock fire station are at the scene off Chorley Road and are using a hose reel jet.

The grassy area is described is 'well alight'.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Fire said: "We have two appliances from Cannock who are using one hose reel jet to tackle the blaze.

"The area is Chorley Road in Burntwood and described as grassland and heathland.

"The area is 80 metres by 80 metres and well alight."
