Eight arrests were made at Wolves' Championship home clash with Preston North End on Saturday.

West Midlands Police arrested a total of eight people – seven of those being North End fans – at the match at Molineux.

Five away supporters were arrested for encroaching onto the playing area, with two more apprehended for being drunk and disorderly.

A smoke 'bomb' was also thrown, with Preston North End already having a suspended fine for several pyro incidents last season.

The @PNEPolice Twitter account posted on Monday: "7 #pnefc arrests at the weekend & the return of a smoke 'bomb' inside the ground! Still have a suspended fine hanging over us! #noneed".

One person, who police said was a Wolves supporter, was arrested for assaulting another home fan.

An eyewitness who attended the game said: "A couple of fans left the away section and one man was tackled by around four or five stewards but he put up a struggle.

"A group of police officers then went over and managed to apprehend him. This went on for a couple of minutes before he was marched out of the ground."

West Midlands Police has said that all those of arrested at the match had been interviewed, with some charged and some bailed.

They could not provide any further information.

Preston North End was quick to condemn those involved, and fully supported the work of the police and stewards to deal with the offenders.

A Preston North End spokesman said: "Preston North End Football Club condemns any supporters whose behaviour brings the club's reputation into disrepute.

"We fully support the police and stewards in ensuring that supporters who misbehave are dealt with appropriately."

On the pitch, Wolves conceded two first half goals through Paul Gallagher and Adam Reach.

January signing Joe Mason pulled one back for Wolves in the second half after coming off the bench, but they lost the game 2-1.

The defeat leaves Wolves 12th in the Championship table – 11 points off the the top six and 14 points off the relegation zone.
