Signal failure causes Friday night train chaos

Rail passengers were facing a long journey home this evening after a total signal failure between Stafford and Bushbury, Wolverhampton, brought trains to a halt.

The points failure occurred at 3.45pm and was not resolved until around 6.30pm.

Road transport was laid on passengers travelling between Stafford and Stone.

Trains between Wolverhampton and destinations further north were diverted via Shrewsbury and Chester while Network Rail investigated the cause of the problem.
