Aldi has confirmed that work is nearly complete on clearing The King Arthur pub, in Birmingham New Road.

Piles of rubble are being collected and removed this week at the site at the junction with Priory Road.

The supermarket chain confirmed building work would be starting imminently with the aim of having the store ready for Christmas.

Up to 40 full and part time jobs are being created thanks to the new supermarket.

An Aldi spokesperson said: "Since we announced our plans we have received an overwhelming amount of support from the local community and we're delighted that we're now a step closer to opening."
