Witness plea after pedestrian dies in Birmingham car collision

Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman pedestrian died after a collision with a car in Birmingham just after Christmas.

Officers said Ilona Ford was hit by a Ford Focus in Olton Boulevard East, Acocks Green, at 7.15am on Tuesday, December 29. The 41-year-old from Sparkbrook was taken to hospital where she died from her injuries.

Ilona's family have paid tribute to her saying: "Ilona was a mother of two who was born in Birmingham and was very proud of her children and her roots.

"Her family and friends have been very shocked by her sudden death and would welcome any information that could help them understand more about what happened at the junction of Gospel Lane and Olton Boulevard East when she was fatally injured by being hit by a car."

PC Chris Ridge, from the Collision Investigation Unit, said, "The driver of the car stopped at the scene and is assisting our investigation, but we would also like to hear from any witnesses to help us understand the full circumstances of her death."
