Inquest opens after schoolboy hit by car outside West Midlands Safari Park and later died

An inquest has opened after a schoolboy was struck by a car outside West Midland Safari Park just days before Christmas.

Lewis Chambers, aged 16, from Bewdley, died in hospital after he was hit by the car.

The teenager, who worked at the park, was struck by a blue Citroen Xsara on the A456 at around 6pm on December 20.

Lewis was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham with life-threatening injuries where he later died on December 21.

Worcestershire's Coroner opened an inquest into the cause of his death yesterday.

It was adjourned for a final hearing at a later date.

The medical cause of death has been listed as multiple injuries.

His devastated family paid tribute to their 'beautiful son' just before Christmas.
