PICTURED: Five injured as serious smash closes Cannock road

Five people were injured and a main road blocked for more than two hours after a smash in Cannock Chase between between a bus and two cars.

The collision occurred on the A34 Stafford Road at Brocton, near the junction with Pottal Pool Road.

The road was closed in both directions as emergency crews worked to treat the injured and clear the road of debris.

The driver of one of the cars, a man in his 50s, was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital. He suffered head injuries but police say they are not believed to be life-threatening.

The accident happened outside Buxtons garden machinery suppliers. Staff say they heard the impact just before 9am.

An air ambulance was dispatched to the scene but not used.

West Midlands Ambulance spokesman Chris Kowalik said the driver of the other car suffered chest and leg pains and was taken to the County Hospital in Stafford.

Injuries on the bus included the driver who had chest and leg pains and was transported to New Cross Hospital for treatment.

Two passengers on the bus, a man suffering from shock and a woman with a mouth injury, were both taken to the minor injury unit at Cannock.
