The former Litten Tree building will be transformed if planning permission is granted by Stafford Borough Council.

The Riverside nightspot has been shut since 2012.

Councillor Christine Baron, who represents the area, said the town could do with the business being brought back into use.

"The Litten Tree has been closed for years and years, I don't think it was anything before that," she said.

The Revolution bar will be in the building where the Litten Tree used to be

"I used to go in there for meals if I was running in between meetings I used to nip in and get some lunch.

"It used to be quite popular and I think it has been missed.

"The impression I get from speaking to young people is that they just want to see it in use."

She added: "I can't pre-determine any application but anything which creates jobs has got to be a good thing."

Manchester-based Revolution operates 60 bars around the country.

The firm haven't stated how many jobs will be created exactly but their venues typically have around 50 employees.

Planning agent Mark Mason said: "The Revolution Bar group have taken over vacant The Litten Tree bar in Stafford.

"The plan is to refurbish the existing operation and extend into a vacant shop unit and therefore this is an application for change of use of the shop unit.

"The bar sits within a large office and council office complex with car parking for customers and local businesses."

He added: "Revolution bars are proposing to invest a million pounds in this redundant site which will add to the overall enhancement of this area's rejuvenation creating local employment and vitality."

The Riverside area of Stafford is currently undergoing a £70million revamp.

A total of 18 new shops are on the way as part of the scheme including Marks & Spencer, River Island, Outfit, Primark, H&M, Phones 4 U and Costa.

A new 1,000 space multi-storey car park on Bridge Street to accommodate extra visitors is also near completion.

While the rejuvenation also features a six-screen 800 seat cinema which will open at the end of 2016.
