The motorway will be closed eastbound from junction three at Cosford to junction two at the i54 from 8pm until 6am tomorrow.

Joe Wilson, spokesman for Highways England, said: "It is resurfacing work that we're doing overnight on junctions three to two eastbound."

Work began at the start of the month to repair concrete slabs in the carriageway after cracks were discovered in the road surface. Some of the work was carried out under partial closures, but the carriageway was completely shut for several nights to get the repair work done as quickly as possible.

A diversion will be in place via the A41 northbound, the A5 eastbound towards Weston-under-Lizard, and the A449 southbound towards the M54 to rejoin at junction two.

Meanwhile, motorists will face delays in Wolverhampton today because of a winter wonderland, on Dickenson Avenue, run by Wolverhampton Bushbury Hill Estate Management Board . It will lead to a road closure between 8.30am and 4pm as well as diversions put into place.

Dickenson Avenue, from outside Bushbury Hill Estate Management Board to Low Hill Crescent, will be closed while the event is on and there will be diversions in place from the junction of Hammond Avenue/Low Hill Crescent.

The event itself is on from 12 pm to 3.30 pm and features a bouncy castle, video booth and face painting with Santa and his reindeer set to make an appearance.
